My Father died last week. He had no will and no life insurance?

I am trying to handle his affairs as best as I can. I have no money for an attorney. I cancelled everything that needed to be cancelled. I have sent everyone that needed to be informed copies of his death certificate. Problem is I am not the executor of his estate. He owes 48,000 on his house loan and I am sure that he has dr bills that he owes. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. I cannot afford his house payment. I cannot afford an attorney. I am wondering if I should try to continue to do this on my own or do I need legal help. I know how to apply to be the executor of his estate, but I don't want to be stuck with all of his debt. Please help.
